Adopt a Pet in the Recession!

A lot of us are hurting in these tough economic times, but the little spoken-about victims are really family pets that are forced out when folks can't afford to feed themselves AND Fluffy or Princess. There are plenty of places out there that are accepting these Recession Pets, but those places are running out of room.

For instance, down in Florida, the 10th Life Sanctuary is caring for 600 cats. They have a no-kill policy (which means they don't euthanize animals when they are not adopted) but they are running out of space and funding.

If you are currently financially secure enough to have a pet, perhaps adopting a loving animal who has lost its home due to financial hardship is an option for you. If you can't adopt a pet at this time, maybe you can make a donation to the 10th Life Sanctuary, or another No-Kill shelter to help these animals have a good life their families were unable to afford.

Catastic!

Damn, I love me a good Cat Fashion Show:

"Earlier in the day, Matilda, a pedigreed ragdoll breed with long, silky, cream-colored hair, held court on a chaise lounge by the entrance."

You can see a few disappointing photographs here. I really hope that next months issue of Cat Fancy has a centerfold of this event. It would be almost as exciting as their annual "Kittens" issue. Sigh. I love cats and kittens, even when cruelly dressed in costume.

Monday Kitten Snack

I've had a postcard with this picture on it for years. His little lips slightly parted, the patches on his jacket, just spinnin' his tracks. It still cracks me up.

Friday's Kitten Snack

Little Monroe has never been featured on the blog, so I thought this was her time to shine. Probably the greatest thing about living with LC is that she brought this little bugger to D.C. with her. She's just a little puppy in this pic, but she's still a really small cat. Here's to Monroe! (And to being done with my semester at school!)

Thank you Jessica at Feministing for calling this to my attention. The Onion just gets better and better. Hilarious.

A Surprise Thursday Kitten Snack

I just can't stop looking at this little guy. Although I'm pretty darn sure I'm not interested in adopting a little tiny cat (because I would never sleep again from fear and worry) I think if this kitten needed a home, I would gladly take him in.

Monday's Kitten Snack

This is probably what Shakespeare and Eliot's litter looked like. I wish all 7 of these guys had been at the Humane Society for me to take home. I'm glad I got one black and one gray.
